Balkanika's Special Grapes Bundle

What Winery would be without a proper Vineyard, am I right?

This project includes 9 brand new types of Grapes that your Sim can take care of, and harvest. All grapes function as my indoor harvestables!

When you first buy the plant you'll see only the watering interaction and after some hours you'll be able to collect the first patch of grown produce. Afterwards the interaction will be available once a day.

Water the plant 1 a day.

Harvest grapes 1 a day.

Types of grapes:

Vinelines (you can place them next to each other and build a real vineyard with them). They come in two types - regular with three vines (note that they are high poly!), and single with only one vine.

Since my custom harvestables are not like the regular ones from the game, I let myself some frivolities.

When your Sim collect fruits, they will get basket with grapes, instead of single fruits, in their inventory.

From each pergola they can collect 4 baskets, each trellis 2 baskets, each vineline 3 baskets, and if it's a single vine - 1 basket.

1 basket contains 20 grape fruits.

Each type of grape has individual moodlet after consumed.

First you'll see 'Check Basket' interaction, before the option to 'Grab Grape'

The baskets and the fruits both have fruit/ingredient tag and can be sold or used in cooking, if required any fruit

I also made Rail fence (see below gif), so you can build your perfect vineyard.

Known issue: Note that my harvestables don't use the code of the EA harvetables interactions, therefore you'll need to manually click on every single grape to be watered/harvested. It doesn't work like the regular gardening where your Sim will collect from all automatically.

This conversation with Mane has got me thinking about what it is about Spokeishere that made him such an incredible villain.

And I realized that Spoke never cared about player activity. That wasn't his main goal.

All his plots were around doing the plot with whomever was around, and usually, since it was server ending, he actively didn't want players to be active. (the cleansing is interesting and i'll get to it later)

Like, season 3 Spoke wanted to ban everyone off the server. And here was a PrinceZam actively trying to stop him. Spoke didn't care if everyone else gave up, that was the point. He wanted everyone to give up. But Zam would just NOT give up.

The finale therefore revolved around getting Zam in particular to give up, and trying to ban everyone else off the server.

Spoke needs players to care about his plots, but it's not about generalized player activity.

In s4, over the whole season, but specifically once he got the wormhole barrel on lifesteal, he started doing little stream events with each player that he could get to long on. Individually inviting them to be active.

Vortex and Mapicc hide and seek that won them wormhole items. (bro got vortexdragon to log on I mean come on) Going on Zam's stream and making poopies, bringing poopies to Bacon's streams and Planet's streams and making a playhouse for players to try and survive. Making Peepees the warden during Zam's fight with Mapicc partially on Mapicc's request, then making a maze for players to go through and survive. Joining Zam's stream to splash the po potion on him. Telling Planet to stream and showing off some of the wormhole items. Joining Zam's stream when Branzy logged on and giving Branzy the dolphin potion.

Just so many little events played with the members who already were active, or asking specific members to log on and doing something with them.

And that got a huge roster of members who were mildly aware of what was going on so as things ramped up they understood the context.

But it was never about getting people to care about the server again, he just created an environment where they had fun and therefore did care about the server.

And as the season approached its end, he told Parrot that if he and 3ht could survive the wormhole they would win.

And the people who were inactive who logged onto the event were presented with absolute chaos but it was clear they were opposing spoke so they naturally gravitated to asking Parrot what he needed and that got them involved.

The wormhole was a protect the president event, with clear sides. But if you didn't show up it didn't matter to Spoke. It was on 3ht and Parrot to convince people to help them, they would be hunted down regardless.

And that event showed just how good Spoke is at keeping an eye out on hopelessness and pressing forward or laying off or keeping op items in reserve or asking parrot what items to ban so that there was no way for 3ht to be banned before at minimum the final hour.

He is phenomenal at understanding hope and making sure it stays high.

The Cleansing was a little different, it was started, iiuc, because players weren't active and out of the conclusion that that was because there was a heart discrepancy.

So the end goal was to make it easier for player to be active, but that wasn't the goal of the arc. The goal of the arc was to kill every player once. They didn't have the goal to get everyone to care about lifesteal again, they just killed you once if you logged on, and in one day killed, what, 6 players? By doing such a scandalously brutal first day (and with an exploit) it created an intrigue to everyone else and an opposition formed. And because the cleansers wanted more players to log on to harvest hearts from, they were perfectly happy to oblige the dirties with the fights they wanted in retribution for the hearts they had already taken.

They didn't just want the members active, they needed them to be active so they could engage in a fight and kill them.

And when a member logged on that wasn't normally active, everyone knew they would be targeted by the cleansers and worked to save them. It was clear they were in danger.

And that engagement brought more interest, and that interest created a large group and before you knew it Clown was getting bloodthirsty and created a side team to get all the hearts and now there were three teams and everyone ganged up on decimation and Clown got bed trapped and the cleaners won and the hearts were distributed and it was lifesteal's most highly rated event.

But this event-based plot that will work with just whoever is active, and whoever is active will naturally get whoever is not active to be active, and that will get the whole server active without you trying, is a wholly unique mindset that Spoke has that is different from any member who has tried to be the villain.

The abyss, to their credit, once they became a scavenger hunt event, saw wildly more player activity than when they were just a hole to the void. And Medusa and the s4 prison were both events as well, and they saw a good amount of intrigue.

-Finished s3 of Mairuma last night so I’ve reread the music festival arc. I just wish s4 will come faster becauseee I’ve been LSS-struck by Lilith’s Red Carpet and the music isn’t even out yet 🥺

Iruma is a BABY. Everyone around him wants to protect and cherish and love all of him. But you? Oh, hell you enter the room and they’re all either kneeling or cooing because how can you be such a cutie?

Sullyvan treats you and Iruma like toddlers. You want those dresses? Here buy ten each. Oh, you love that dessert? Opera, please bring more. You wanna go shopping? Take his wallet, his bank details, take his whole life if you must. Sully-sama just wants the best for you and your Nii-chan.

But unlike your brother, you’re not allowed to have a sleepover or stay outside way too late. Either Opera will come hunting you down once it’s past seven pm or your whole class will be the searching party.

Opera is much, much stricter to you than to your brother. They make sure that you are above prim and proper most of time. “You’re a lady in the household, (y/n)-sama”, or so. But they’re still as gentle as they could be and always prioritize what makes you comfortable.

No man. And I mean NO MAN, is allowed to come near you aside Asmodeous Alice (and somehow the other misfits as well). Pray that no one would dare to walk you home because,

“Apologies, (y/n)-sama. I thought you’re being kidnapped” “OPERA-SAN WE’RE LITERALLY GOING HOME” you’re freaking out at how bloody the nose of your friend is.

At class, you’re seated between Alice and Lead because Azzazz thinks that he should be in the middle of you and your brother so he can protect both of you in case somethings happens. And Lead insists that he must be beside you because you’re his “Baby sister.”

Ofc you’re part of the Iruma gang but you spend time with the other circle from time to time as well. One of your favorites is Nee-san and Krocell because you’ve never had a big sis and these two are doing good at the job. Sometimes they dress you up like a doll with Clarin just bringing out the most random (but cute) clothing from her pockets.

Jazzy and Garp spoils you rotten. You’re their princess and they call you as such. Jazzy loves to bring you shiny gems and jewelries that he bought because “You’re special” and then he’ll ruffle your hair. He will also let you play with his familiar.

Garp would cook for you. You’re tired of the foods from the cafeteria? Open up the kitchen of the royal one! You want sweets? He always keeps sweets. Garp also blows wind at you if you feel hot due to the weather.

When you’re tired, or if you just need it—like in the harvest festival, Agares is assigned to make you comfortable. Yes, the misfits have talked about it. They have no doubt about your strength and ability, you’re Iruma’s sister after all, but “What if the bugs and other insects bite her? We can’t have that!” Cue, Agares building a whole castle for you (As well as for him and Garp). When other students took shelter in the said place, he made sure you still have the Luxury of space and as comfortable as you can be. Even though you argue that no, you can fight, and a cramped space is fine for you.

Babe, you should have seen the way the other girls look at you with playful jealousy as Agares dotes on you.

Allocer and Sabnock helps with your study. It’s a great help when you feel a bit pressured at Azzazz’s teachings. Besides, you can’t add to his luggage anymore (a.k.a Iruma and Clarin). Sabnock mostly teaches you about the Demon king, but he’s also pretty good when it comes to other subjects. He’s gentle and caring, being the big brother that he is.

Aloocer, on the other hand, is a much stricter tutor. He gave you assignments and pointers. But his work certainly help you pass every exam, most of the time even sharing it to your brother when you two study at home.

Camui is also one of your favorite classmates. He’s not allowed of course to hog you, as the other twelve will go after his head, and he wouldn’t do that as well to the class’s baby! Because of him you can pet animals and beasts (With the help of Krocell) without getting hurt.

Sometimes you will hang out with Iruma and Lead and it’s so cute because it looks like two babies trying to protect a smaller baby. The two of them will spoil you as well and you’ll be the one to decide what to eat, what to play, or what to do for the day or for that specific time.

Purson Soi also gives you a special treatment. If he vanishes and the class can’t find him, one call from you and puff! He’s there. You don’t want to talk to that schoolmate who keeps asking you out? Big brother Soi will make sure your presence is gone in a moment.

It’s very subtle and he still treats just like the whole class, but Kalego-sensei just seems to “miss” if you’ve done something wrong. Or he would just let it slide “very unnoticeable” if it’s about you.

And Balam-sensei? You remembered how scared he was the first time Iruma told him that he’s a human? That’s he’s reaction to you up until now. The professor wouldn’t even touch without thinking that he’ll break your soft body. Tell him that it’s fine though because the man wouldn’t even breathe the same air as you in fear of intoxicating you.

BigBro!Iruma in Evil Cycle is the cream of the crop. All hands off of you. All eyes off of you. “You want something now, Princess?” Say you want the whole netherworld and it’ll be at your feet. He wouldn’t barricade you or anything, but his eyes will be watching you and anyone around you.

Hello can you please info dump on Xisuma and or Pearl in your heavenly Hermits au pretty please.

the thing you need to understand about Xisuma is that he never meant to start anything of any scale. he made a server for some friends like a decade ago. he didn't know that half of those friends were already gods and the other half would ascend to godhood before long. he has no interest in godhood himself, but like, he kept playing with them, because they're still his friends, y'know?

there's isn't some sort of godhood requirement he enforces. in fact, he intentionally tries to get mostly mortal members, and yet they always end up turning into gods. Jevin, Mumbo, Tango, and Cleo joined in season 2 as mortals, and somehow have STILL all ended up as gods by season 8. Doc and Etho were immortal when they joined in S3, but Impulse was SUPPOSED to be a normal guy! Scar and Cub joined together in S4 and got jealous of the other gods and were somehow immortal by the end of S5. Zed joined as a mortal in S5 but became the new grim reaper in S6. Gem and Pearl were both supposedly normal when they joined in S8 but became gods in S9. there's some people outside the server but close to existing hermits (Jimmy and Martyn, for instance) who literally use "being invited to hermitcraft" as a euphemism for ascending to godhood because any mortals who join dont stay that way for long.

admining a server for 26 gods (give-or-take) is exhausting work, but luckily Tango, Impulse, Doc, and Joe are all able to chip in and keep the server's code from collapsing under the weight of that much conflicting divine power. Xisuma used to be very religious but has renounced worship because "after meeting some gods, it's REALLY gotten quite hard to respect them"

Pearl, as i mentioned, joined as a mortal human woman in season 8. she occasionally joked about fitting in as a god bc she was related to the moon, but it was just that: a joke. at least, until Grian tore open a multiversal portal in S9 and they went through to the Empires universe first, where Pearl learned and, eventually, remembered, that she's a reincarnated goddess!

unfortunately she's also a wounded goddess, having burnt most of her divinity up at the end of ESMP1, and had two different demonic entities (first Xornoth, then Something Wicked) attach themselves to her in order to leech off the divine vitality that a wounded harvest and fertility goddess bled. she hasn't entirely purged herself of their influence, and Xornoth's scarlet Corruption mixes with Something Wicked's dark-blue Sculk inside of her divine gardens alongside the more innocuous fields of wheat and sunflowers. honestly? she's not too fussed about it! she think they're just as pretty as the other plants and fungi, and honestly, it's fun getting to add things like vengeance and blood to her domains. sure, she also needs blood sacrifices now and gets the urge to kill people, but eh, fun's fun!

Ekvillan - 'The oak villa'

Ekvillan is a spacious family villa inspired by swedish architecture from the turn of the last century.

I chose to call it 'Ekvillan' - 'The oak villa' in swedish, since there is a big oak tree in the garden. It has a vegetable garden, bees, a chicken coop, and a treehouse. There's plenty of cozy little spots to hang out and eat 'fika'.

what do you think would have changed about TO if Sophie had survived s1? would she have tried to become Regent for the witches since Vincent's idea of making a teenage girl Regent and then leaving her high and dry was dumb. i like Sophie and i was sad that after she's died, nobody really seems to care (i can't recall if she got a funeral). i did like that s4 remembered she existed and name dropped her in the Vincent/Eva flashback. also her having a special gift of sensing pregnancy is cool and she's the only witch we see have a certain gift.

I love Sophie and I was so shocked they killed her, but it kind of made sense they did. That woman was smart and was ready to skip town. She was taking her niece and getting out of there before New Orleans turned into a bloodbath.

Sophie had no desire to be Regent and I don't think she cared enough about Davina to interfere. Yes, she was compassionate, but she prioritized her family over others. So she would have taken Monique and left Davina to handle everything, like Vincent did. I agree, it was dumb and felt out of character for Vincent, but he was going through so much.

I hated how there was almost no mention of Sophie after her death. She interacted with every single person and was so pivotal. Then she died, murdered by her own niece, and we didn't even get a scene of people reacting! She didn't get a funeral. I do think Marcel was kind of a different character season 1 because in the later seasons, we definitely would have gotten a scene of him reacting. He had a relationship with her, even though it ended terribly and he killed her sister. I still think he would have felt guilty for it.

Also, terrible thought is that they didn't even consecrate her. Meaning she is just stuck. She risked her whole life to make sure she could consecrate her sister and we never got to see if they did that for her.

She was powerful and yes, had a special gift that we never see again. They really could have explored a lot with her. Let her leave town and then bring her back occasionally. Or even, as I've complained about so many times, bring her back as an Ancestor. New Orleans witches introduced such a cool concept with the Ancestors and then we never get to see them in action. I loved in TVD that we got to see all of the Bennett witches supporting Bonnie. I would have loved to see something like that. Like in Season 1 when they show the Ancestors supporting the Harvest Girls. If she had been properly consecrated, it would have been so cool to see her working on the other side to stand against the Ancestors. Seeing her and Celeste interacting would have been perfect.

But, of course we couldn't have that.

Hi, I saw this post you reblogged and didn't want to derail it or give you/the op unwelcome notes to deal with so I thought it'd be better to ask this way. I felt like the post felt kind of contradictory and selective to me, and I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it?

First, I won't defend Dean keeping Gadreel a secret from Sam after Sam was possessed, that was wrong and it led to Kevin's death. Full stop, he was in the wrong for concealing that. But Dean didn't "let" Gadreel possess him... He told Gadreel that it was Sam's choice and didn't know the manipulative methods that Gadreel would use to get Sam's yes. He trusted Gadreel bc he thought he was Ezekiel and Cas told Dean that he could be trusted. Gadreel took advantage of his trust and he was the one who lied to Sam to get Sam's permission.

I'm also trying to remember when Dean violated Sam's body autonony other than keeping Gadreel a secret and I can only think of him and Bobby forcing Sam to detox in s4, but in the context of Sam being manipulated by demons and the way that the demon blood was affecting him, I think that can be justified (though I guess I understand if you don't agree). Either way, I think it's most directly comparable to Sam trying to rid Dean of the Mark of Cain, and the route Sam chose to do that did actively violate Dean's expressed wishes, resulted in Charlie's death and putting the entire world at risk of ending, which Sam knew was a risk... When Dean forced Sam to detox he was trying to save Sam and prevent the apocalypse, while when Sam cast the spell to remove the MoC he was trying to save Dean while knowing that it would cause unimaginable destruction and death. So in comparing those two similar situations, it seems to me like Sam was the one who was more reckless and willing to risk more because he couldn't live without Dean.

Also, in as early as Faith we saw Sam actively going against Dean's wishes to save him despite the method being incredibly suspicious and Dean not wanting to be saved that way. Sam saving Dean resulted in the death of an innocent person in Faith (it's not Sam's fault, the person would have died anyway, but now his death was on Dean's conscience when he didn't want to be saved like that in the first place), and in s3 Sam was on board with harvesting organs and frankensteining him and Dean to go on living forever just to save Dean from Hell.

Also in Mystery Spot, I'm a little confused how it was used it as an example of how he can live without Dean? That episode is supposed to show us that Sam will risk and do anything to keep Dean alive (kind of like the body part harvesting episode), to the point of possibly murdering Bobby on the suspicion that it was actually the trickster (he was correct about that, but he wasn't 100% sure so he did stab him knowing that he might be wrong and would be killing his uncle). So I just don't think it's a good example of Sam being less codependent than Dean, since the message of the episode is the exact opposite.

To be clear, I am not a Sam anti, I like him a lot. I just think that the show shows us time and time again that both Dean and Sam make reckless and harmful choices to save each other, and both of them display a lack of concern for the other's autonony over the course of the show. I don't really like the idea of arguing over which one incident was worse than the other, since ultimately that's kind of unquantifiable and they both make so many mistakes and both ultimately forgive each other. And the purgatory thing and the Gadreel thing are so different, if we want to compare one situation to another I feel like it makes more sense for the more similar situations like the demon blood detox and the MoC.

Hey, Anon! I have an extended list of what Dean did to Sam that he thought it was right or that it was fair, but it wasn't.

• Dean DID let Gadreel possess Sam. Gadreel manipulated Sam when it was the time for Sam to say yes, but Dean LET him. What was even worse is that, after the possession, Dean kept lying to him, even when Sam thought he was crazy because he felt like there was pieces of time missing. Dean knew about Sam's story with possession, but he let it happen because he was desperate to not be left behind by his brother. Sam only found out the truth when the king of hell possessed him (after his body was tortured). Dean NEVER apologized for it. And he would do it again.

• Dean was the one who started the Apocalypse, but the narrative, the characters only blamed Sam. They both had the same goal: kill Lilith, then why only Sam got the blame? Dean left Sam in that panic room to die, Castiel let him escape, and instead of trying to talk to Sam, Dean called him a monster. Sam was manipulated by Ruby the entire time, so he was always at a disadvantage. When Dean went to hell, Sam was alone and grieving, and Ruby was there for him to give him what he wanted. But Sam learned from his mistakes, having THE arc of redemption in s5.

• I wouldn't discuss the Mark of Cain because that whole storyline was a JOKE. But anyway, Dean took the MOC willingly. He was becoming the worst version of himself. He was getting dangerous, and Sam tried talking to him to see the reason, but Dean didn't want to hear it. So Sam did what he had to do. And let's be honest here: Charlie caused her own death. She was dumb enough to leave the place where she was safe, to get killed. Dean never faced the consequences for anything related to the Mark. Different from the demon blood detox, Sam would never be cured by it because it was literally inside him. The Mark was only a curse that could be cured by a spell (the result wasn't nearly as bad as the apocalypse because the Amara storyline was pretty weak).

• In Mystery Spot, Sam was different because he was fueled by revenge, but he only "killed" Bobby because he knew it wasn't him. "You know why? Because you're not Bobby" and then stabbed him. And I'm not saying Sam doesn't have questionable decisions, but they're less harmful than Dean's.

• In episode Faith, when Dean was "saved" by that preacher, they both didn't know how that happened, but Sam believed Dean deserved to be saved, he always believed in Angels and in God, but he didn't know that it was a work from a reaper.

I'll never deny that they both were codependent on each other, but this codependency was unbalanced.

And I won't talk about the purgatory thing because I will not touch that can of worms again (too many years talking about it, and I'm so sick of it, lol)

Dean wasn't being selfless in "saving" Sam, every time he did, was for himself. Sam even said that to him in 9x13:

Dean always had this hero complex (and God complex bc it fits) that he SHOULD keep Sam alive, even when he doesn't want to, and that is a violation. Sam couldn't even keep secrets about HIMSELF from Dean, that he got punched in the face, like his life is not his own. Sam constantly thanked Dean for being there for him, and he always felt like he owed his brother everything, but you guys are 1st to judge Sam when he DOES something to save Dean and he doesn't as well, which is a hipocrisy.

To say that they're "equally" harmful to each other is not paying attention to their dynamics throughout the years. Dean always had the final word, even when Sam didn't agree with him, which it became worse in late seasons, and like Sam told him in s9, "I'll give you this much. You are certainly willing to do the sacrificing as long as you're not the one being hurt."

They ultimately forgive each other because Dean doesn't want to be alone, and I know he loves Sam, just like we know Sam loves his brother, but what choice does Sam have? He could never go on with the life of hunting without his brother. That's why it was so important for Sam to Dean to give him his blessing in 15x20 to stop hunting.

PLEASE EXPLAIN ARCHIE KILLING A SECOND (?) JUGHEAD. THANK YOU MO

theres actually three jugheads but thats not rly relevant here. so jughead in the rivervale universe discovers that rivervale is actually a derivative universe to the original riverdale universe created from hiram setting off a bomb underneath archies bed when he was kissing betty. (this is bc they were able to prove on video that hiram is a murderer and exiled him from the town). and the riverdale and rivervale universes are bleeding into each other and will both eventually implode if not fully separated. he finds this out bc he discovers a second jugheads corpse earlier in the episode. jughead believes the best way to separate the universes is to recreate the birth of rivervale as closely as possible but an inverse meaning that he has to make vughead canon and he and veronica have to make out w each other and get exploded by a bomb under the bed. veronica agrees and they plan it out. but archie shows up and its revealed that hes the one who killed the other jughead (he also killed veronica and cheryl). this is bc in rivervale everythings different bc magic and stuff exists and thus no one who dies really stays dead (which was proven in this universe bc archie came back to life despite being sacrificed by all the rivervale residents for the annual maple harvest the trees were not producing maple syrup as per usual and they needed to sacrifice someone pure of heart.) but since archie was the one present at rivervales creation aka the explosion under his bed. in a way this makes archie one of the main villains of rivervale bc despite the risk of the universe imploding he has to prevent the universes from beign separated bc then he gets sent back to the regular riverdale universe and ultimately he believes his dad can come back in this universe (archies dad died in s4 its actually really sad bc the actor who plays archies dad died irl and they tributed that whole episode to him :( so bc of that obviously archies mission is doomed to fail.) but then betty shoots archie before he can choke this jughead to death. but then the second jughead comes back to life and solves it by making the current jughead basically keep the rivervale universe alive as long as he never stops writing aka being a human battery for the town and the other jughead loses his memory of doing any of this and goes back to the riverdale universe . and then the third jughead of course is the rivervale jughead also unaware of the wider narrative. theres also angel jughead but we dont need to get into that bc thats not really jughead it merely uses him as a visage.

But if I have to choose one, I think my latest dean-centric fic Harvest Moon ends on a more positive note – not exactly happy but at least peaceful (or that's how I read it anyway)

I have some smut in my drafts for fics I've never written/never finished. I don't mind the idea of writing sex, I'm just not very confident about it being any good :')

well I don't have much experience with writing ships if I'm being honest! but I love rarepairs and I'm also working on a dean/cas short fic and then there's my infamous dean/lee fic gathering dust in a folder on my pc and a dean/cassie one that's just waiting to be published. so I'd say anything with Dean in it 😬

15. what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

many such cases... my dean/lee fic first and foremost, but there's also this fic that I started writing some months ago about pre-s4 Cas traveling back in time, and I'd love to keep working on it, but the direction it's taking feels kinda intimidating (very introspective, very philosophical, etc)

16. what are your writing strengths?

uuuhhh I'm not sure? I've been told that I do a pretty decent job of getting into the characters' heads, for example. If you ask me, I think I'm kinda good at finding rhythm in my sentences, and I do love to play with structure and length and pacing and all that stuff!

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

I feel like I have many. Like, I wish I were better at choosing more interesting words and sentences and imagery. I also think that sometimes I get too lost inside the character's head and forget about describing things - like emotions, places, actions, situations, etc. But to be honest a good portion of my problems would disappear if I were a native english speaker adsadj

18. thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I've never done it, probably never will, but if it makes sense for the story then why not

19. favorite fic you've written?

It has to be Harvest Moon, for sure. Very self-indulgent of me, but I've loved writing that fic sososo much: it has young!Dean, pre-series family dynamics, religious imagery, a non-linear narrative that allowed me to explore many different themes and situations. Plus the little game I played using the prompts as first and last words of each paragraph was genuinely so challenging and fun! From a stylistic point of view, though, the one I'm most proud about it's the dean/cassie one, which I swear I'll publish someday sfdfsd

Been thinking about how TDP portrays / informs the structure of its tragedy, re: narrative divisions between the primary male and female tragic figures of the narrative

Which is to say: men in TDP ruin themselves under the guise of protection for the people around them, whereas the women in TDP ruin themselves by actually protecting the people around them. 

Harrow doesn’t like the Magma Titan plan, but he still doesn’t fully see Sarai’s problem with it, and goes ahead with the mission even when he thinks she disapproves. He says it’s for the greater good of his people, but it also involves robbing another creature of its own personhood (and heart, because organ harvesting), and three kingdoms of their queens as a consequence. Harrow survives and avenges her, yes, but it’s clear this is to sate his own grief and guilt and anger/hatred towards Avizandum: “the undying hatred of one who loved the victim,” not undying love for the victim. He’s not protecting her, he’s dishonouring her. Killing Zym is a choice he makes out of fear, hence why he resolves “I would rather die a king than live as a coward” yet again. Let the blood price be his royal head now that he’s learned his lessons too late.

Conversely, Sarai disagrees with the plan the whole way through, but goes along in order to protect Harrow (“Wasn’t this something in our marriage vows? Keeping you alive when you’re acting like a brave idiot?”) and even slays the Magma Titan herself, sullying her own hands (and spear). Then she dies, successfully saving Viren.

But Viren “could do nothing to save hers” so he kept her breath and her spear, and gave Harrow the tool of vengeance needed to absolve Viren’s own guilt over the manner. Viren tears himself and his family apart, gaslighting his son and weaponizing his daughter, in order to ‘protect humanity’ (while assassinating regents, plunging the Pentarchy into political chaos, disrespecting every human he comes into contact with, and using legions of soldiers as nothing more than a distraction) but in the end, he protects no one. S4 begins to deal directly with his guilt over the way he hasn’t been able to protect Claudia in particular, even as he states, “I have always been ready to do anything to protect my family” except give up his own cause and ambition. 

Runaan acts like he is “already dead” and passes that down to Rayla, but at the time of the assassination, he’s not truly protecting Xadia from anything. Ezran is an innocent child and Harrow is preaching peace to his sons in their final hours together. But Rayla does protect the egg and Ezran (and Callum) and subsequently loses everything for it. By the end of arc 1, Soren, Callum, and Ezran can all go home and be welcomed as heroes. Rayla is an exiled traitor, just like Claudia (just like Aaravos) and there’s where these two girls really converge as tragic figures.

Claudia and Rayla spend two years wandering Xadia on account of Viren. Claudia does this all for the sake of saving/protecting her father, and Rayla does it all for the sake of killing him (and subsequently protecting Callum and the whole world, in her mind, by proxy), because their fathers couldn’t actually protect them, the same way Harrow couldn’t actually protect his sons from grief and war. Where Tiadrin successfully protected the egg, where Sarai is embodied in her sons, their fathers plague their footsteps. But Claudia is able to actually save Aaravos, and Rayla - if the symbolism / light foreshadowing comes through - will save / help Callum save himself from Aaravos. Leaving in TTM fell into Harrow and Viren’s patterns, unsurprisingly, but her actions going forward will likely diverge (at least to the best of her ability). 

This ‘gendered’ divide isn’t as consistent as say, perhaps calling it a generational divide (i.e. Terry killing Ibis and successfully protecting Claudia was operating under no guise), but I think it’s worth noting, anyway, as Callum is probably the main male character who veers into both lanes of Tragedy, largely the one occupied by the women in his life, i.e. doing dark magic to save Rayla, for example, when we know the consequences that's led to, particularly now. But if Callum does something risky in S5 that doesn't pan out the way he wanted/planned, even if he had good intentions (banther lodge 2.0) and that leads to something Worse happening, he’ll loop back around to Harrow and Viren’s stages.

And well, we know that Callum and Viren both have to lose the Game Aaravos is playing, don’t we? S5 and S6 will be Tragedies.

That’s how the story’s been structured from the start.
